What is Remedial / Learning Support?

Remedial support is specialist teaching for children whose learning has not moved forward at the expected pace. It is not extra homework and it is not simply more of the same lesson โ€” it is a different way of teaching, matched to how that particular child learns.

We begin by finding the exact point where understanding broke down, then rebuild from there using multi-sensory methods: seeing, hearing, saying and doing together.

Who may benefit

Is this right for my child?

You do not need an official diagnosis to come and talk to us. If any of the following sound familiar, an assessment is worth having.

  • Difficulty recognising letters, sounds or numbers
  • Reading that is slow, hesitant or heavily guessed
  • Persistent spelling difficulty despite practice
  • Writing that does not reflect how much the child actually knows
  • Struggling with number concepts, sequencing or basic operations
  • Short attention for schoolwork, or reluctance and anxiety about school
  • Children with dyslexia, ADHD or a specific learning difficulty

15-Minute Multi-Sensory Literacy Boost

Progress accelerates when clinic skills are reinforced inside daily home routines. Try this 15-minute sequence:

Sand / Salt Tray Tracing (4 mins)

Pour fine salt in a shallow tray. Say letter sound out loud while tracing letter with index finger.

Elkonin Sound Boxes (5 mins)

Draw 3 boxes. Push a coin into each box for each distinct sound heard in words like 's-i-t' or 'sh-i-p'.

Paired Reading with Finger Guide (4 mins)

Read a story together. Parent and child read aloud simultaneously; child taps finger to read solo when confident.

Rapid Visual Flash (2 mins)

Flash 10 high-frequency sight words on index cards with zero second delay to build automaticity.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No. Tuition repeats the school syllabus. Remedial support teaches the underlying skills that make the syllabus accessible.

It depends on the gap. Many children attend for one to two terms, with progress reviewed every few weeks.

We carry out informal screening and, where a formal diagnosis is appropriate, we will tell you clearly and help you take the next step.
